When the weather turns or everyone needs a break from the sun, Ripley’s Aquarium is the most reliable option in the area. Located at Broadway at the Beach, it draws more than a million visitors a year — and the exhibits are well-maintained, properly paced, and genuinely engaging for everyone from young children to adults looking for a few hours out of the heat.
The centrepiece is a 330-foot underwater glass tunnel where you walk beneath sand tiger sharks, stingrays, sawfish, and green sea turtles. The touch tanks let younger guests handle horseshoe crabs and sea urchins under staff supervision. Feeding presentations run at scheduled times throughout the day and are worth timing your visit around — check the board when you arrive.
Get there when the doors open at 9am to beat the peak afternoon crowds, particularly in summer. Tickets purchased online in advance are slightly cheaper and mean you skip the queue. It’s one of the few rainy-day options in the area that genuinely fills a full morning without anyone reaching for their phone.
